Petition Amend the digital passport system for equines to include medical history.

There is an ongoing issue with equines being sold with underlying health issues not being disclosed (sometimes that are so serious vets have advised euthanasia). Dealers mask pain and sell on to unknowing individuals. Passports are often not kept in the dealers' names and no veterinary history is recorded by the passport. Meaning there is both an animal welfare issue and transparency issues for prospective buyers. Equine purchases are only coved by consumer rights which have no regard for welfare.

The Welsh Government should work with the UK Government to make veterinary and medical history a mandatory section in horse passports across Great Britain.

More details

I myself have recently purchased a horse that after only having for one week became crippling lame. Have undertaken research I quickly found that the horse had been diagnosed with severe arthritis a number of years previous and vets advised euthanasia. However, this did not happen, and the horse was sold on, drugged to mask pain and appear sound. More must be done to protect the welfare of these animals. More must be done to ensure passports are correct and updated and contain all past medical histories and diagnosis. Both a vet and current owner must be able to update passports with necessary information (especially where a vet believes this could be a future welfare concern) …. We should be looking to introduce a digital passport of some sort that can be more easily updated and transferred between owners.
