Petition Have a permanent installation of the Characters and Stories of the four branches of the Mabinogi
Wales is one of Europe’s oldest myth-bearing nations, yet its foundational stories remain largely unseen. The Mabinogi and especially the Four Branches, form the heart of Welsh myth and identity, preserved in medieval manuscripts and rooted in the land itself. Despite their importance, Wales has no permanent public installation celebrating these stories. While other cultures proudly display their myths, Welsh mythology is left to individuals, limiting education, visibility and national confidence.
More details
This proposal calls for the creation of a permanent national installation dedicated to the Mabinogi, with particular focus on the Four Branches. The installation would provide a visible, immersive space where Welsh mythology is brought to life through art, storytelling, interpretation and education. Rooted in place and bilingual in nature, it would celebrate Welsh characters, landscapes and mythic themes while supporting Welsh artists, storytellers, and educators. The installation would strengthen cultural confidence, enhance education and offer a unique cultural attraction for visitors. Most importantly, it would publicly acknowledge Wales as a source culture of enduring myth, ensuring the Mabinogi is no longer hidden in archives or left to individuals, but recognised as a central and living expression of Welsh identity.
