Petition Establish a Memorial to Catrin ferch Owain Glyndŵr at or near Harlech Castle

Catrin the daughter of Owain Glyndŵr.She spent some of her final years at Harlech Castle during the collapse of her father’s revolt. During the siege, she lost her husband and son, and in 1409 she, her mother, and her daughters were taken prisoner and removed to the Tower of London.
Catrin has a modern statue in London, there is no memorial to her at Harlech, the place most closely associated with her life. Residents and visitors remain unaware of who she was or of her connection to the castle.

More details

Catrin was not a general or political leader, but a daughter, wife, mother, and civilian who endured profound personal loss as a consequence of war. Her story represents the often-overlooked experiences of women and children in medieval conflict and offers a deeply human perspective on the history of Harlech Castle.
We believe a modest, sensitively designed memorial or interpretive feature would:
- Honor Catrin’s life and suffering
- Broaden and deepen the interpretation of Harlech Castle
- Improve public awareness of women’s experiences in Welsh history
- Strengthen local and national understanding of this important story.
We respectfully ask Cadw to explore, in principle, the feasibility of such a memorial and to advise on appropriate next steps.
By signing this petition, you support the recognition of Catrin ferch Owain Glyndŵr as a significant figure in Welsh heritage and affirm that her story deserves to be remembered where it truly belongs.
