Petition Investigation into the Welsh mental health services and reform it
People across Wales are speaking out about worrying experiences with mental health services. Many report unsafe care, long waits, poor accountability, and being ignored when asking for help. These are not isolated cases but system-wide failures raised by Healthcare Inspectorate Wales and Care Inspectorate Wales. Mental health is still not treated equally to physical health. We call on the Welsh Government to investigate and reform services so people receive safe, timely, compassionate care.
More details
People across Wales are coming forward with deeply concerning experiences of mental health services. Many report unsafe or inadequate care, long waiting times, lack of accountability, and being ignored or dismissed when reaching out for help. These experiences are not rare but reflect wider, ongoing failures within the system.
Mental health services in Wales have already been raised as a concern by Healthcare Inspectorate Wales and Care Inspectorate Wales, particularly around staff shortages, inconsistent care, and insufficient funding. When services are stretched this thin, vulnerable people are left without support.
Mental health should be treated with the same urgency as physical health. We are calling on the Welsh Government to commit to a full, independent investigation and meaningful reform of mental health services across Wales, so people are treated with dignity, care, and respect when they ask for help.
