Rejected petition More funding for schools to support the growing additional needs and classroom support staff.

Schools are facing an urgent and escalating crisis. The number of children with additional learning needs, behavioural challenges, autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social-emotional needs has risen significantly in recent years. Yet school funding has not kept pace with this increase. As a result, schools are being asked to meet increasingly complex needs without the staff, resources, or specialist support required to do so safely and effectively. We need support!

More details

There has been a rise in pupils who have learning or behavioral or additional needs. But school funding has not increased to provide the essential support staff required. LSAs are critical to inclusive education, offering targeted interventions, emotional regulation support, and supervision. Without them, teachers are overstretched, and children who need tailored help are left trying to cope in overwhelming environments, leading to disruptions and lost learning time for all. It's severely affecting staff wellbeing and pupil safety. Teachers and support staff are working under relentless strain, and many professionals are leaving the profession. Most concerning is the risk to vulnerable children, highlighted by cases such as my nephew, with autism, absconding from nursery due to minimal staffing ratios. This situation has become a crisis and urgent funding for additional needs support staff is essential to protect children, support teachers, and ensure all pupils thrive.
