Petition Demand an Inquiry into Dŵr Cymru/Welsh Water, the “Not-for-Profit”
It is fundamentally failing in its statutory duty to protect public health, biodiversity, and natural environment of Wales. Recent data demonstrates that the current regulatory and operational framework is entirely unfit for purpose, operating under a unique "not-for-profit" model designed to safeguard public interest, the corporate leadership structure has consistently protected high executive remuneration and six-figure salaries while consumer bills rise and local river ecosystems deteriorate.
More details
Data from 2025 reveals that Welsh Water recorded its worst year on record for serious pollution incidents, managing 11 major, environmentally devastating incidents - an 83% increase from the previous year. (1)
Natural Resources Wales awarded the utility a "Red" performance rating for serious incidents. These failures led to massive penalties, including a requirement to pay £40 million following investigations into the misreporting of leakage data and environmental performance - and that is JUST THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG.
