Petition Allocate the full consequential funding to Additional Learning Needs (ALN)

We call on the Welsh Government to allocate and ring-fence the £500m in consequential funding from English SEND spending directly to local authorities and schools for Additional Learning Needs (ALN).

While not legally bound to the same portfolio, this funding exists because of systemic education pressures that do not stop at the border. Ahead of the supplementary budget, this money must go straight to the frontline to support Wales’ most vulnerable learners and stabilise our schools.

Our calls to Welsh Government

- Allocate the full consequential funding explicitly to Additional Learning Needs (ALN).

- Direct funding straight to the frontline, ensuring it flows directly to local authorities and schools where the legal responsibility and daily pressures sit.

- Ring-fence these resources to guarantee they cannot be diverted to alternative government portfolios.

- Invest immediately to stabilise current ALN provision and protect existing services from devastating cuts.

Without this targeted investment, outcomes for Wales' most vulnerable children and young people will sharply decline. Learners will face severe delays and reductions in essential support, and schools will be forced to stretch depleted budgets past the breaking point.

This is a critical moment for Welsh education. We urge you to stand with schools, learners, and families, and ensure this funding is used for its intended purpose.
