Rejected petition Launch a National Inquiry into Maternity Services in Wales

Maternity services across Wales are failing women and families at every stage of care. Like many mothers, I experienced inadequate support before, during and after childbirth; failures that nearly cost me my life. Postnatal care lacked compassion, consistency and access to mental health support, even after referral. We call for a National Welsh Inquiry to investigate maternity services, identify systemic failures and deliver meaningful change for future generations.

More details

Too many mothers are reporting experiences of inadequate care, poor communication, insufficient staffing, and a lack of support during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. Like many women, the care I received throughout my maternity journey was inconsistent and, at times, negligent. In my case, these failures nearly cost me my life. The postnatal ward lacked compassion, empathy and continuity of care, leaving me feeling unsupported when I needed help most. Accessing mental health support after birth has also been extremely difficult, despite referrals being made. We are calling for a National Welsh Inquiry into maternity services to investigate systemic failures, hear directly from affected families, review standards of care and access to maternal mental health services, and make recommendations for meaningful reform. Mothers, babies and families deserve safe, compassionate and accountable care. Change is needed now to protect future generations.
