Petition Reform funded childcare in Wales to make it fair and accessible.

Working families across Wales are struggling with the cost of childcare. Despite government support, many parents still face unaffordable fees or are excluded because of eligibility rules. Families with children who have additional needs often face even greater barriers, with funded places unavailable because providers cannot meet their needs. Childcare should be affordable and accessible for every working family.

My husband and I are both teachers in Wales and have paid around £1,100 a month for just two days of childcare each week for our two young children, aged 18 months and 3. Although support is improving for some families, many parents have missed out on thousands of pounds due to eligibility rules and the phased rollout of funded childcare.
We are asking the Welsh Government to review childcare funding so it is fairer, easier to access and genuinely available to all working families. This should include ensuring there are enough funded places for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, improving eligibility where families are currently excluded, and reducing the financial burden that prevents parents from working.
