Petition Establish Welsh Government partnership links with Cuba and Venezuela

We call on the Welsh Government to:

Develop formal cultural, educational, medical and community partnership links with Cuba and Venezuela, following the model of Wales’s existing Dolen Cymru partnerships with Lesotho and Uganda — including opportunities for teacher and health worker exchange, cultural collaboration, and community-to-community links.

More details

Wales has a 40-year tradition of formal, Government-funded international partnership links, delivered through Dolen Cymru & Wales and Africa programme. The Wales–Lesotho link, launched 1985, has placed over 50 Welsh teachers in Lesotho, supported NHS partnership exchanges & delivered cultural and educational collaboration between the two nations. A similar partnership exists with Uganda.

These links operate within Welsh Government devolved competence: while international relations generally is reserved to UK Parliament, Welsh Government retains the power to conclude non-binding partnership agreements with other governments in devolved areas; education, health and culture, and to hold meetings with counterparts from other nations.

This petition asks Welsh Government to extend this well-established, non-political partnership model to Cuba and Venezuela; building people-to-people links in devolved areas; teacher exchange, health cooperation & cultural collaboration, as it already does with Lesotho.
