Petition Create an All-Wales pathway between private and NHS neurodevelopmental care
We call on the Welsh Government to introduce an All-Wales pathway requiring NHS health boards to formally review private autism and ADHD assessments against published clinical standards, explain in writing when evidence is not accepted, consider shared or coordinated care where clinically appropriate, and provide timely NHS review and treatment where privately initiated treatment is discontinued, not continued, or requires NHS review.
More details
Families may seek private ADHD or autism assessments because NHS waiting times are long. Problems can then arise if NHS services do not accept or continue privately initiated assessment or treatment, leaving children caught between services.
This petition is not asking the NHS to automatically accept every private diagnosis. It asks for a clear All-Wales process so private evidence is reviewed against published standards, families are told in writing why evidence is rejected, shared or coordinated care is considered where appropriate, and children are not left without treatment while responsibility is unclear.
The aim is simple: decisions should be based on clinical quality, patient safety and the best interests of the child — not simply on whether an assessment was privately funded or NHS commissioned.
