Petition I call on the Welsh Government to allow those who have lived in a council property for 20 years or more to purchase it.
I have lived in my council property for 23 years making improvements to the house while asking my council for permission. My family love the house we rent from our local council but we would like to purchase the property as we’ve lived here for over 20 years and feel this is our family home. The scheme was abolished in Wales only and feel with a new Welsh Government in place, this decision should be looked at for long standing tenants, to help them get into the property market.
More details
Me being the only income provider in my household due to my wife’s ill health, getting onto the property market is near impossible. Living in my council home for 20+ years, I feel I should have the right to purchase the property that I call home. I have made home improvements with the councils permission, fitting new doors throughout, our own bathroom, renovating the garden and decorating every part of the property including the exterior.
We would like the law to change so it gives the less able and lower income families a chance of owing a property that they have been renting for a long period of time. The money generated from sales would be giving councils the funds to build new houses/flats or renovate buildings such as closed schools to provide more houses across their areas.
