Rejected petition Reduce the amount of possible content that will be in the Summer 2021 GCSE and A-Level exams.

Covid-19 has affected everyone's education. In the summer of 2021 Years 11 and 13 will have their GCSE and A Level exams respectively. As the school year has only just begun we're asking that the amount of content needed to be learnt for these exams to be reduced. Only very minor changes has been done to the exams despite the facts that so much education has been lost.

More details

What we're asking for is that more units from the specifications be removed to compensate for the facts that so much education has been lost. We want this because it's unreasonable to expect any of us or Year 11 pupils to have more or less the same exams as last year even though we've lost out on so much.

Why was this petition rejected?

There’s already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue, or if the Petitions Committee has considered one in the last year.

Another petition about ensuring fairness for students taking exams in 2021 is already collecting signatures: https://petitions.senedd.wales/petitions/244133

One of its main calls is for the Welsh Government to reduce the curriculum content assessed across GCSE, Welsh Bacc and A-level exams next summer, by making some topics optional across all subjects.

You are more likely to get action on this issue if you sign and share a single petition.
