Rejected petition Cancel externally set “assessments” in 2021 for GCSE’s in favour of using teacher assessed grades.

Year 11 pupils have had significant disruption to their learning journey. This has impacted negatively on their education, confidence, and mental wellbeing.
The three step assessment process was introduced prior to the tightening of restrictions and it is no longer fit for purpose. Please bring Wales in line with England to prevent any further stress being put on our children.

More details

The “internal assessments” due to take place between 22nd Feb and 23rd April have recently been cancelled pending further updates. Pupils are then expected to sit externally set assessments sometime between May and June 2021 despite teachers not even finding out the “themes” of these assessments until the beginning of the Summer Term (12th April 2021).
This is not fair on our children and it is not good enough to have so many changes and disruptions.
Our children have spent the past 4 years being inspired, guided, supported and taught by the people who know them best, including their individual abilities, capabilities, potential and ambitions. It is only right that teachers are trusted and respected to exercise their professional judgement in making the most appropriate grade decisions for our children.
