Rejected petition Introduce free transport for anyone still in education

The cost of transportation while in education is creeping up, especially for lower-income families that surpass the already incredibly low threshold for Educational Maintenance Allowance. Transport is essential for all, but especially for those in education who live in rural communities and do not have access to pay for a train or bus fare.

More details

£40 per week Educational Maintenance Allowance only applies to those who meet the threshold, which is lower than an average income. So this does not apply to all, especially those who need it. This money does not cover all costs; for example, an enhanced DBS costs £50 for some college courses, uniforms, and equipment for lessons. This is simply not enough and affects the average student.
