Petition The Welsh Government should issue guidance to allow social housing tenants to garden for nature without risk to their tenancies.
Many social housing tenants want to garden for nature by having wildflower meadows or other nature targeted areas in their gardens. However, social landlords often require that gardens and grass specifically must be kept “neat and tidy”. Some councils are threatening tenancies because of wildflower meadow areas in residents' gardens.
We call on the Welsh Government to issue guidance to social landlords to ensure tenants are allowed to garden for nature.
Wales is one of the most nature depleted countries in the world. This is not just a threat to our native species but also human health and future food production.
