Rejected petition Re-Open Gyms, Pools and Leisure Centres for individual use from April 12th.

Close contact services and all non-essential shops are permitted to resume trade on April 12th. The decision to allow these services to re-open but not gyms, pools and leisure centres on the same date is politically motivated instead of being evidence based.

The Welsh Government has failed to present any clear evidence that continued closure of the above services is necessary to protect the public health or that they pose any different risk other than services open now or permitted to re-open

More details

Gyms, Pools and Leisure Centres significantly benefit mental and physical well-being. Three different studies, including one in south Wales, conclude gyms are safe and not places of increased transmission.

Why was this petition rejected?

There’s already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue, or if the Petitions Committee has considered one in the last year.

Other petitions calling for this are already collecting signatures:

Re-open gyms in Wales to allow people to work on their physical and mental health https://petitions.senedd.wales/petitions/244770

Open aquatic facilities and swimming pools in Wales earlier than the published Welsh Government date https://petitions.senedd.wales/petitions/244816

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards

Rejected petitions are published in the language in which they were submitted
